Learning styles

Every student has their own unique learning style. A learning style is the approach or way in which we learn new information. The three generally recognised learning styles involve visual learning, auditory learning and tactile/kinesthetic learning.


1. VISUAL LEARNERS - 'learn best through seeing!'
these learners find it easier to :

• understand information when they SEE it.
• interpret maps, diagrams, charts or graphics.
• use visual presentations to explain new concepts or ideas.
• remember what they read or write & may 'think' in pictures.

2. AUDITORY LEARNERS - 'learn best through hearing!'
these learners find it easier to :

• understand information when they HEAR and SAY it.
• remember oral instructions.
• become involved in classroom & group discussions.
• talk things through & listen to other viewpoints.

3. TACTILE/KINESTHETIC LEARNERS - 'learn best through movement and touch!'
these learners find it easier to:

• understand information if there is some ACTION or MOVEMENT.
• remember things after they have done them once.
• learn new ideas or concepts through a 'hands on' approach.
• get involved in lessons that have a practical or activity based component.
